Future Research Needs

Projects for 2012-2013

CREW capacity building research projects for 2012-13 have been identified.

A process has been carried out which linked 'demand' for CREW projects (from Scottish Government and their agencies) with the 'supply' of knowledge and evidence (from Main Research Providers (MRPs) and High Education Institutes (HEIs) in Scotland). The following steps were taken:

A scoping paper was written and sent to the policy community and academic stakeholders. It summarised current water policy and legislation and highlighted potential research needs.

A workshop was held in the autumn, in Edinburgh to discuss priority policy needs. A long list of possible projects were proposed and discussed.

The list of projects was consolidated by CREW staff and policy colleagues, and academic experts were asked to vote to prioritise topics.

A final meeting was held to consider all discussion, votes and comments and agree projects for 2012-2013.

The scoping workshop report is available here.

Projects for 2013-2014

A different approach is being undertaken to determine CREW capacity building research projects for 2013-14. An extensive review of all water related legislation, policy, guidelines and international developments and initiatives is being undertaken. Research needs in the light of these policies will be identified by experts, policy makers and stakeholders. Priority projects will be developed from this review.
