How water experts in Scottish HEIs can get involved

The success of CREW lies in our ability to draw on Scotland’s extensive pool of research talent working on water related issues, and using this talent respond to policy needs. Experts are paid for work carried out under CREW.

Register with CREW to work on enquiries and rapid research projects

We will draw appropriate expertise from our register of water experts when policy makers make enquires or rapid research requests via CREW. To register as an expert to work with CREW, please complete this online survey. Please complete this survey answering as may questions as possible to help capture a snapshot of your expertise. We have used subject lists from widely used UK research classifications (RCUK JeS and LWEC), for consistency with existing databases.

Submit a tender in response to our call for capacity building projects

CREW develops capacity building projects jointly with the Scottish Government and its agencies. The commissioning process begins in December each year. The timetable for commissioning is:

December Capacity building projects specifications advertised by CREW
February HEIs and JHI submit proposals based on specifications
March Proposals assessed and experts informed
April Capacity building projects

Details of the commissioning process can be found here.

Propose a research project that addresses a policy need

Whilst CREW enables policymakers to request specific research, it also allows experts to propose research projects and outputs that meet policy requirements. Such proposals are likely to be for research worth no more than £20,000 in value and meet a very specific policy need, or inform the policy community of a specific water related development or initiative, within a short specified timescale. Experts from Scottish Higher Education Institutes may submit a proposal by completing the template and submitting it to enquiries@crew.ac.uk.

For an informal discussion on ideas for proposals call 01224 395 395.
